GEE's MLX Films Wrap Up Fresh-Cut Magnificently
Golden Eagle's MLX family of films for fresh-cut produce has captured the interest of processors for many good reasons. This revolutionary film offers many desirable features for packaging both retail and food service products. These include superior machinability, consistency, excellent clarity, the availability of anti-fog additives, and very high tensile strength. A coextrusion that achieves the clarity of a lamination makes the MLX films very attractive for the retail market. MLX receives a haze range rating of 4-6, which is the same evaluation of most laminations. This breakthrough allows processors the advantage of longer shelf lives attainable with coextrusions, for their retail products, without compromising clarity.

The ability to add anti-fog agents to the film formulation is another plus for retail fresh-cut products. These additives inhibit the formation of condensation inside the package once it is sealed. This presents a crystal clear package for the consumer to view the fresh appearance of the product. The crisp texture of the MLX films contributes to the customer's perception of freshness of the product inside the package. This crispness is due to the tensile strength of the film, which also enhances its ease of machining on vertical form, fill and seal equipment. The stiffness of this film eliminates the problem of film stretching on the pull belts, so tracking is consistent and perfect leak-proof packages are the result.

The MLX films' versatility accommodates resistive or impulse sealing systems, with a fin or lap platen seal configuration. They can be printed in line up to eight colors surface print, or the lamination of a polypropylene layer allows for buried print. The films are available as roll stock, pre-made bags, pouches, and lidding stock for rigid containers.

The debut of Golden Eagle's Golden Flex film revolutionizes the bulk bun industry by reducing packaging materials by as much as 40%, minimizing down time and waste caused by changeovers, and maintaining productivity and shelf life standards.

Golden Flex performs superbly on Lamatic packaging equipment, as well as other machinery currently operating in the bulk bun industry. It accommodates maximum packaging line speeds with ease, and offers the added benefit of fewer roll changes. Other films must be changed every three to four hours, while Golden Flex rolls last up to eight hours. This leads to greater productivity and less product waste. Every time a film roll is changed, time is wasted and buns are damaged in the process. Minimizing changeovers leads to less product loss.

Golden Flex's high molecular weight construction is ideal for bulk bun packaging. Its crisp, tough structure resists snags and pinholes, and provides the transmission rates necessary for shelf life requirements.
